Monash Art Design & Architecture

If you have completed studies at another institution, you may be eligible for credit if these studies are assessed as being equivalent to units offered at Monash University. To find out about the application procedures, limits on credit and to obtain the application form, please review Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning.

  • Credit can only be applied for once, and in the first semester of a course.
  • For single degrees, a maximum of 60 credit points can be granted for 1st year equivalent units; lower limits may apply depending on individual course progressions.
  • You must supply an original or certified copy of your academic transcript(s).
  • Transcripts will not be returned after assessment as they are retained on your student record.
  • You must supply unit descriptions that match the codes and titles on the transcript.
  • If you cannot supply fully matching unit descriptions we require a statement on letterhead from your previous institution stating what the units are equivalent to and providing descriptions from these equivalents.
  • If this information is not provided there is no guarantee that credit will be assessed.
  • Credit is not granted for any studies taken while on deferment or intermission.

Coursework Units

Previous studies need to be at least 80% similar to the Monash University unit granted as credit so as not to disadvantage you in your studies at Monash.

Folio Units

Provide a folio if you wish to apply for credit for Drawing, Industrial Design, Communication Design, Architecture and Interior Architecture studio units.

The preferred format of the folio is in PDF format on a CD or USB stick- these will be retained on your student record.

Ensure the folio has at least one copy of a hand rendered drawing.

Folios for drawing credit must consist of 8-12 images, examples of life drawing and perceptual drawings (still life or landscape) as well as unit outlines from previous subjects studied.

Workshop Units

A condition of credit awarded for workshop units like IDE1502 is for those students to complete a workshop test in order to gain credit.

  • Students will be notified (prior to commencement of semester where possible) with a credit acceptance letter and remaining course progression information.
  • If a student has progression issues due to credit offered, it is their responsibility to contact the faculty for course advice.
  • The credit awarded may not shorten the course duration.
  • Credit will only be awarded where the studies completed prior to admission are of relevance to the course and where the credit awarded will not adversely affect the student’s course progression.
  • Students will not be allowed to undertake units without meeting the published prerequisites.
