How to Apply

 

Presentation of the Thesis

The title page of the thesis should show: the title in full; the full name and degrees of the candidate; the department in which the candidate submitted their work; the degree for which the thesis is submitted; and the date of submission of the thesis.

The text of the thesis should be preceded by a brief abstract indicating the aims, scope and conclusions of the thesis. The abstract should not exceed one page.

A separate page should also be devoted to a signed declaration that the work is original and sources have been acknowledged in a scholarly fashion.

Remember to submit two bound copies of the thesis for examination.

Criteria for Assessment of Honours Theses
In assessing theses, examiners look for the following core attributes:

  1. Selection of the topic; well-conceived, justified, and imaginative? 
  2. Clarity of statement of hypotheses; location of a question within a thorough literature review.
  3. Skill and originality with which relevant ideas are developed. 
  4. Design of the thesis; logical, well-structured? 
  5. Quality of the presentation, expression, footnoting, etc.
