Many of the images and visual forms we see around us - on web pages, in print and TV ads, on packaging, posters, signs, stationery and books - are created by graphic designers.
The graphic design industry offers a dynamic professional environment. It involves multimedia and new forms of electronic communication, as well as more traditional areas of practice such as advertising, publishing, packaging, and corporate image design. Graphic designers will continue to influence the look and direction of emerging media forms such as the Web and CD-ROM.
The Graphic Design Studio is the focus of the Visual Communication course at Monash. The studio helps to equip students with the basic, cross-disciplinary skills they need to work as a professional designer - an understanding of 2D and 3D visual forms, typography, and the positioning of design elements. Digital imaging is also a core subject for the first two years of the course.
