Cars, mobile phones, luggage, lighting, furniture, medical equipment, hair dryers? all of these products have in common the need for good design. Good design can make a product stand out from its competitors, and promote a manufacturer's corporate identity. However, industrial design not only involves making products look and feel good - it also requires an understanding of the manufacturing process, materials, and marketing areas of product development.
Australia has an international reputation for innovative product design, a tradition that is being upheld at Monash. Detailed records of past industrial design graduates show that 75-80% are currently working in a range of design-related areas for leading Australian and overseas companies - for example, Sony, Holden, NEC, RipCurl, Motorola, Lego, and ACI Packaging.
