Step four: choose your elective units for those course structures which permit this option

Which elective units do you want to study
Depending on your course structure, you may be able to select an elective from a range of units offered within the faculty and university.

Electives should be determined in consultation with the course coordinator.

To view the elective units that are available from the faculty, go to the 2009 Elective Unit Guide section of our current students site.

If you have completed prior tertiary level studies you should read the information in the credit for previous studies section.

So which disciplines and units should you choose? This is something we talk about in detail at pre-enrolment, and you will have the opportunity to speak with course advisers during your enrolment day - but it is something you can start thinking about now - check out the 2009 Elective Unit Guide  section of our current students site.

You can find out what units are offered each year by accessing the Unit Information sections of the University Handbook. Each unit code is made up of three letters and four numbers: the letters refer to the discipline and the first number indicates year level, e.g. DGN1001 is a Design studio first year level unit.

Credit for previous studies
If you have studied at another tertiary institution you may be eligible for credit (advanced standing) - for help with this please visit our credit for previous studies section.

Why some units require ‘authorisation'
A number of Art & Design units require authorisation, which means that only a limited number of places are available. Web Enrolment System (WES) enrolment is not available for these units. You must complete an Enrolment Amendment form on enrolment day (or when you visit the Faculty’s Student & Administrative Services Unit located in the Fine Arts building on the Caulfield campus) and get it signed by the relevant course coordinator.

Once you have been authorised to study one of these units, your enrolment will be processed.

Step five: complete your enrolment via the WES
