Credit from previous studies(Credit previously known as advanced standing)Credit can be granted to students who have completed study at another institution that is assessed as being equivalent to units offered at Monash University. If you have completed studies elsewhere before applying to Monash, you may be entitled to receive credits or substitutions. You will need to include evidence of these studies when you apply. Each case will be considered according to merit. Credit can also be granted for units studied at Monash University. If applying for a course transfer credit for any previous course is not automatic and as such must be applied for and assessed. Credit will only be awarded where the studies completed prior to admission to the new course that are of relevance to the course and where the credit awarded will not detrimentally affect the individual course progression of the student. Documents requiredIn order to apply for credit, applicants need to submit the following:
Studio and Workshop unitsStudents applying for credit for studio units may be required to produce a folio for assessment. Those students applying for credit for a workshop unit will be required to complete a test in order to gain credit. Limits on creditCredit may be given for all units for which equivalence of learning is established up to the following limit. The student must still satisfactorily complete, at Monash University, at least 48 credit points in the course, or not less than half the course, whichever is less, in order to be awarded a degree, diploma or certificate for the course. (In the case of a 144 credit point undergraduate degree, this means that a maximum of 96 credit points of credit can be granted. In the case of a 48 credit point postgraduate diploma, it means that a maximum of 24 credit points of credit can be granted.) Process for appeal against credit awardedStudents wishing to appeal against credit offered must write to the Manager, Student and Administrative Services Unit, D1.02, Fine Arts Building, Faculty of Art & Design, Caulfield Campus outlining the reasons for their appeal. Students will be notified of the outcome of the appeal within 10 working days. Credit is not granted for any studies taken while on intermission. Courses from which credit has been previously granted.Students wishing to apply for credit must complete the application and submit it by the due date.
