Dr. Mohamed El Sioufi is an urban development advisor specialized in sustainable urban development, housing and slum upgrading. Prof El Sioufi has over 40 years of experience practicing, advising central and local governments and teaching in academia.

From 1995 to 2014, Prof El Sioufi has worked with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) as a Senior Human Settlements Advisor responsible for policy advice, technical cooperation and capacity development in the Arab States, Africa, Asia/Pacific and Latin America/Caribbean regions.

Prof El Sioufi developed and managed programmes in the areas of human settlements design, environmental planning and management, urban governance, housing and slum upgrading policy and strategy development, programmes and projects, post-crisis institutional capacity development, and resource mobilization.

Prof El Sioufi conceived, developed and coordinated the UN-HABITAT Participatory Slum Upgrading Programme (PSUP), funded by the EC, and operating in over 40 developing and post-crisis countries in the African, Caribbean and Pacific regions.

From 2007 till August 2014, Prof El Sioufi has coordinated the Shelter, then Housing and Slum Upgrading Branch as well as the Global Housing Strategy. He furthermore, supervised and conducted evaluations of several development programmes.

Prof El Sioufi also evaluates and advises several urban and architectural master’s programmes in Sweden, Germany and Egypt.
