OHSE Induction

An important component of the induction is the compulsory OHS&E online training video, Faculty OHS&E contacts and the requirements and clarification of responsibilities of staff members and supervisors and how OHS&E relates to students.

Monash Safety Induction Program
The Safety induction program includes a training video and links to Occupational Health, Safety and the Environment at Monash Brochure and the Environment at Monash Brochure.  These items are listed on the induction checklist to complete - available from the induction home page.

Faculty Safety Induction program
The Faculty Safety Officer will discuss OHS&E information that is relevant to your work area and discuss policy and procedures.

Please note: Within your first week of employment you will need to make an appointment to see the Faculty Safety Officer.

Faculty contacts list includes safety officer, building wardens and first aiders. Also listed are campus emergency numbers and external emergency services.

Faculty Staff OHS&E Responsibilities
All staff are expected to comply with safety instructions in their work environment and to familiarise themselves with OHS & E procedures. In addition, staff has the following responsibilities:

  • take reasonable care for their own health and safety as well as that of other people who may be affected by their conduct in the workplace;
  • seek guidance about any new or modified work procedures
  • ensure that any hazardous conditions are eliminated or minimised and that near misses and injuries are reported immediately to the supervisor;
  • participate in meetings, training and other environment, health and safety activities;
  • co-operate with instructions given by emergency response personnel such as emergency wardens and first aiders;
  • ensure proper use of all safety devices and personal protective equipment;
  • cooperate with the University in activities relating to compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
