Thursday 7 December
4-6pm Opening of exhibition 'Before the body - matter' at Monash University Museum of Art
Ground floor, Building 55 Monash University, Clayton Campus
(bus #900 runs from Caulfield Station to Clayton bus loop, allow 30 minutes)

With a welcome by Max Delany, MUMA Director and brief introduction to the exhibition by curator, Geraldine Barlow, at 4.30pm. 'Before the body - matter' considers the body, form and matter, exploring the resurgent interest in the uncanny, the grotesque and the informe. Artworks made in parallel with feminist discussions of the 90s such as those by Susan Norrie, Simone Slee and John Meade are brought into context with recent works by Pat Brassington, Christian Capurro and Benjamin Armstrong among others. Moving over the skin and inside the body, the exhibition maps out a passage between surface and interior, an interior as contained as it is infinite.

Exhibition Dates: 30 November - 15 December 2006; 1 February - 14 March 2007

Sunday 10 December
10.30am Launch of book Modernism & Australia by Philip Goad, Andrew McNamara & Ann Stephen at Heide Museum of Modern Art. Free entry.
