VESKI Awards in Design 2009

VESKI is an initiative of the State Government of Victoria and is funded from the interest on a $10 million endowment held by the Victorian Treasury. VESKI supports two key design initiatives in 2009,

VESKI will fund a submission received from Monash University to support:

  • A Research Development Program by Kieran Timberlake
  • Stephen Kieran - Principle of Kieran Timberlake will visit Melbourne between 30 November and 5 December
Kieran Timberlake is an American award-winning and internationally published architecture firm noted for its research, innovative design and planning services.  In particular their approach to low energy, low environmental impact buildings of all types & sizes and how they interweave sustainable design systems will feature heavily across the program.

VESKI will also support a submission from Swinburne University to fund:

  • A two day Design Thinking & Practices Conference to be held on 20 - 21 November 2009
The Conference will cover Design thinking as a topic of major interest in a range of design and related fields, particularly in the global context.  Australia has yet to explore fully the consequences of the concept for design education and practice.  With the increasing importance of innovation to the national economy, this is a good time to do so.

Both submissions will host a free public lecture to the broader design community, in Victoria, to showcase their respective activities and experiences.
