Hats off to Monash jeweller and 'living treasure'

Internationally renowned jeweller and metals and jewellery course coordinator, Marian Hosking, has been recognised as one of three masters of Australian craft by the Object gallery in NSW. She was selected from a short-list of 25, alongside Les Blakebrough (ceramics) and Klaus Moje (glass), as one of three Australian artists valued nationally and internationally for their work and influence.

The gallery will present a Living Treasures exhibition series, starting later this year, to acknowledge the contribution of the three artists. Marian Hosking's work will be featured in 2007.

The exhibition will be presented by Object in collaboration with Craft Australia, Museums and Galleries Foundation NSW and the University of Wollongong, and funded by the Australia Council for the Arts.

Marian's selection as a 'living treasure' caps off a busy period including her participation in the HAT (Here and There) Project, which led to an Arts Victoria-funded residency at the University of Brighton in 2003.

Her work from the residency is featured in the latest exhibition at the Faculty Gallery, The HAT Project (Here and There) -- Australia/UK.

Marian has worked as a jeweller for more than 30 years and is known for her highly skilled creations in silver.
