Art & Design welcomes new head of Architecture

Faculty of Art & Designs welcomes renowned architect and academic Professor Shane Murray has been appointed Foundation Professor and Head of Discipline, Architecture in the Faculty of Art and Design. He will lead the first completely new architecture program in Australia in 30 years and the only one to be offered in an art and design environment.

He joins Monash from RMIT, where he has been Professor of Architectural Design, Director of the Urban Architecture Laboratory and Program Director of the undergraduate architecture program.

Professor Murray is a practicing architect and academic who studied at the University of Melbourne and RMIT. His buildings and theoretical projects have been published in over 30 international and national architectural journals including: Casabella, Ottagono, Quaderns and Arkitekturnasskrifft B.

He has participated in numerous architectural exhibitions and forums, and has been invited to lecture about his work nationally and internationally. He writes on issues of urbanism and contemporary architecture for various architectural journals and was advising editor and member of the editorial board for Transition magazine. Currently he is a member of the Editorial Board for the journal Architecture Design Research.
