The Design Game: Sydney 2000 & Melbourne 2006
Faculty Gallery Exhibition - 15 July to 12 August 2004
It could be said that designers need the stamina and determination of athletes. A new exhibition at Monash's Faculty Gallery, looks at the process behind designing identities for two of the world's largest sporting events - the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
What was the public response to the Sydney 2000 logo? How is the identity for Melbourne's 2006 Commonwealth Games evolving?
The Design Game explores the challenges of visually communicating an Australian ethos within a global, and multilevel, branded event. It asks how designers conceive of a single logo that reflects the ambitious aspirations of such events, and has the world as its audience.
This exhibition shows the vast scope and scale of these design projects; from the signage in the stadium, to the event tickets and programs, uniforms and Barbie collectables.
Exhibition to be opened by the Hon Justin Madden, Minister for Commonwealth Games on Wednesday 14 July, 6pm - 8pm.
