Citigroup Private Bank Australian Photographic Portrait PrizeMonash postgraduate student, Rod McNicol, has won the 2004 Citigroup Private Bank Australian Photographic Portrait Prize. He will receive a prize of $15,000 for his portrait of Australian artist, Robert Hunter.
The winning work, which features twin portraits of Hunter, taken 20 years apart, is the forerunner of a series in which McNicol will revisit portraits he took in the early part of his career. Currently undertaking a Master of Fine Arts at Monash Art & Design, McNicol has a number of impressive credits to his name. His work is included in the collections of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the National Gallery of Victoria, National Gallery of Australia, National Library of Australia and the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris. He has also exhibited widely with exhibitions shown from Melbourne to Cracow and Paris. Rod McNicol's winning entry can be viewed at the Art Gallery of New South Wales until 16 May.
