Launch of Architecture at Monash
On Wednesday, 6 June 2007, more than 300 architects, Art & Design faculty members, and other guests attended the launch of Architecture at Monash. Monash University Vice Chancellor, Professor Richard Larkins provided an overview of Monash and its entry into architecture. Professor John Redmond, Dean, Faculty of Art & Design, introduced the philosophy and rationale for the new program before Andrew Mackenzie, editor of Architecture Review, led the Architecture Advisory Group in a discussion of various aspects of education and research in architecture. Architecture at Monash will assert the primacy of architecture to the built environment. This will be supported by education and research that will focus on what architecture contributes to humanity. The program seeks integration between research and practice, academy and profession, to achieve research 'in' architecture and research-led teaching that advances architecture and society.
