Creating Images at Art & Design

This is a guide for authors who are creating images that will be placed on the  Art & Design website.

1. Open the image in Adobe Photoshop

2. First step is to resize your image, do this by selecting ‘Image Size’ from the ‘Image’ menu.

3. The Image Size dialog box will appear with the properties of the image, insert the desired size of your image. Keeping in mind that the maximum width of an image should not exceed 300 pixels, ensure that ‘Constrain Proportions’ is ticked.

4. After resizing your image, you need to create a border around the image. Select ‘All’ under the ‘Select’ menu. Next with the ‘Rectangular Marquee Tool’ select right click on your image, select ‘stroke’ from the list.

5. In the Stroke dialog box insert 4px for the width and in the ‘Location’ options select ‘Inside’.

6. Next click on the color bar to select the border color. The ‘Color Picker’ dialog box will appear, insert #666666.

7. Next save your image, select ‘Save for Web’ under the ‘File’ menu. This will bring the ‘Save for Web’ dialog box; select JPEG High in the options and save your image.
Note the size of the image on the bottom left of window, your image size should be less than 35kb.
