Kathy Temin's collaboration with Jacinta
Schreuder and Kerrie Poliness, Hairstyles for Round
Faces, adds new actors to the duck drama that Temin
has been staging over the past few years. Laid over a
pencil-line grid (a la Frank Stella), Temin's cord
drawings of duck faces are parodies of high modernism,
ready to be unravelled by domestic sentimentality. The
accompanying video of Temin dismantling one of her wall
drawings emphasises her investment in the dramatic vector
of decorama; she lets the art work dissolve into its
environment. Working in wardrobe, Schreuder and Poliness
give Temin's ironic critique of modernism a touch of
glamour, with wigs and hair clips that contract elements
of their own work into the scene being unfolded by Temin.
