Gundagai
At the end of 1986, I left Melbourne.
It snowed in Melbourne that day.
My HIV status was confirmed, Melbourne was
        frightened.
I packed my bags and loaded my mums trailer, and
journeyed up the Hume to Emerald Sydney.
Gundagai was a town on the Hume between Melbourne
        and Sydney.
A dog sat on the tucker box, five miles away.
The story goes, that he awaits his master.
I loved that kitsch dog just sitting there.
When I was 9, I knew that animals always wanted to tell
        me something.
The trailer was full of junk, and the Renault was
fanning itself using its French cooling system.
        We were Mexicans moving North.
        We were in the Middle.
