Anxious Sight: Drawing Time
Dena Ashbolt, Damiano Bertoli, Ju-Yuen Chew, Dagmar Cyrulla, Virginia Greyson, Emma Hamilton, Julia Holden, Nick Mourtzakis, Steven Rendall, Ken Smith, Tan Sheau Ling, Zhen When drawing from observation; either with a long, slow and meditative stare or a short, immediate glance, an engagement with time is fundamental. The role that time plays in the activity of drawing is a research focus for many staff and higher degree students connected to the Faculty of Art and Design’s Drawing studio. Using both traditional and contemporary vehicles to investigate the relationship between perception and duration, the works in this exhibition activate fragments of time which range in length from twenty years to a fleeting moment.
