Career Possibilities

With a degree in Communication Design from Monash, you’ll find careers in advertising, graphic design, branding and multimedia. Whether you’re rethinking the way people interact with public space, or breaking news across the world, you’ll be changing lives.

Graphic designer

Graphic designers blend their knowledge of design, typography, animation and digital interfaces to present information in a meaningful and memorable way.

They can work in advertising, illustration, web design, typography and a number of other fields, finding creative solutions to solve visual communication problems.

Animator

Animators create moving images and motion design for film, television, video games and the internet.

They can work in hand-drawn or computer generated animation using intricate techniques and strong artistic skill, and often specialise in particular aspects of the art such as character animation or special effects.

Web designer

Web designers create the first user-facing experience of many brands and companies.

They are responsible for a website’s visual design, ease of use, consistency and function, and they often use skills in graphic design, coding and illustration.

Packaging designer

Packaging designers work with product manufacturers and brands to create eye-catching, effective packages.

They can work in everything from household goods to food to cosmetics, and use their skill and knowledge of ergonomics, visual design and consumer interaction.

Creative director – advertising

Advertising creative directors apply their knowledge of design, layout and artistic principles to the creation of advertisements from drawing board to completion.

They oversee copywriters, graphic designers and artists, manage workflow, use a number of design programs, and create effective advertisements through the careful management of their team.

Brand manager

Brand managers oversee the consistency and effectiveness of product branding.

They are responsible for the tangible elements of branding, like the look and feel of a product, as well as the intangible, like how consumers relate to the product and its brand.

Multimedia designer

Multimedia designers integrate two or more types of media, using both artistic and technical skills.

They often work in video games and online platforms, combining visual art, animation, graphic design and typography, but they can also work as independent artists creating multimedia installations.

Filmmaker

Filmmakers lead and oversee the production of films, using skills in leadership, visual design, and knowledge of the arts.

They are responsible for many aspects of the finished film, and are driven, visually-focused, and creative.
