How to Apply

James Cox PhD Scholarship in Architecture

The Family of James Cox and the Plenary Group are delighted to offer a PhD scholarship in architecture, in the Faculty of Art & Design at Monash University. This is an exciting opportunity to pursue a program of architecture design research to develop Melbourne’s urban environment. The scholarship will be awarded to a candidate whose imaginative and experimental idea/project has demonstrable practical outcomes with significant social and community benefits.

About James Cox

James Cox was a founding Director of Plenary Group and his passion and energy were legendary. He had a rich career spanning 30 years in property development and construction before the establishment of Plenary Group. He was actively involved in all facets of development; site acquisition, rezoning, planning, financing, construction, leasing, fitout and sale of major projects across Australia, the United States and South-east Asia.

But James really came into his own when working in partnership with governments to deliver public infrastructure. His influence can be seen particularly in Melbourne, where he was a driving force behind the Victorian County Court building, Southern Cross Station and the Melbourne Convention Centre. James was a mentor to many people who worked with him and this scholarship continues his support of major architecture projects.
