Interlocked Space, State of Design, 17 July- 25 August, 9Yarra
Designed, fabricated and installed by first year architecture students from Monash University, this inhabitable display space explores fundamental architectural issues of site, scale and spatial experience. Central to the project is a rigorous and exploratory approach to testing design ideas with an intense focus on materiality. As its operational framework, the project engages the term interlock, a verb-noun simultaneously implying a constructive act and a structural order.

SMALL MATTERS: A Temporary Community Facility for Kinglake, August/September 2009 Silvia Acosta with Adrienne Benz, Visiting Lecturers
In response to the bushfires that devastated lives, homes and communities in Kinglake Australia, this studio will collectively design and build a communal facility in a temporary village that is being developed to house the displaced community. The resulting multipurpose structure, set in relation to a playground, will help generate a place for residents to discuss the future rebuilding as well as host social occasions and events.
We are grateful to all those who helped make the Kinglake Project possible:
