Statement As an artist Susan Purdy's practice establishes a means of active creative resolution of her mixed Asian and Western ancestry. In 1996 she traveled to China on an Australia Council Grant to study Chinese Landscape and painting. In 2001 she received a second Australia Council grant for a 3-month studio residency in Taiwan to conduct an analysis of Chinese Bird and Flower painting. Her most recent project, New Branches on an Old Tree is a collaboration with Terry Smyth, the Curator of the Southern Chinese Collection, Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne. Susan is currently teaching at the Gippsland Centre for Art and Design. Research/Professional activitiesAwards:
