Monash Art & Design Alumni

Many of Monash Art & Design's alumni have achieved excellence in their chosen field; this page profiles some of our most prominent graduates.


Anna Drummond
Bachelor of Interior Architecture (honours), 2004

In 2005 Anna, a designer with Woods Bagot Architects, was the Interior Designer on the project team for the refurbishment of Melbourne's iconic Longroom. Located in the basement of the Georges Building in Collins street, the Longroom boasts an eclectic interior which "flamboyantly celebrates decadent Melbourne nightlife."

Stelarc
Honorary Doctor of Laws, 2001

Stelarc's extensive career spans three decades, and he has been involved in many world art events. A performance and multidisciplinary artist, Stelarc's work entails robotic research, design, computer programming, choreography, medical procedures, animation and sound composition.

 


Ben Wundersitz & Laura Cornhill
Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication), 1999

Ben and Laura make up Studio Binocular, a multi-disciplinary graphic design studio whose clients include STA Travel, Shibui, City of Port Phillip, the Salvation Army, Smack Undies, LaTrobe University, City of Stonnington, ThinkFresh and PBS 106.7


Max Wolff
Bachelor of Technology (Industrial Design), 1997  

Max Wolff is Deputy Director of Advanced Design at GM Daewoo in South Korea. Max transferred to South Korea in February 2004 as part of General Motor's efforts to integrate Daewoo into its international stable of automobile manufacturers.


Mary Tonkin
BA (Fine Art) honours, 1995
MA (Fine Art), 2002

Mary is a practising artist who lectures in drawing in the Department of Fine Arts at Monash. In 2002 Mary was awarded the prestigious Dobell Prize for Drawing and received a $10,000 grant.


William Eicholtz
BA (Fine Art), 1993

In 2005 William was awarded Australia's richest sculpture prize- the $80,000 Helen Lempriere National Sculpture Award for his work "The Comrade's Reward".


Charles Green
Master of Arts (Visual Arts), 1993

Charles is adjunct Senior Curator 20th-21st Century Art at the National Gallery of Victoria. An artist, art critic and art historian, he is regarded as an international expert on artistic collaborations and one of Australia's foremost art critics.


Stephen Cornwell & Jane Sinclair
Bachelor of Arts (Graphic Design), 1991

Cornwell Design grew out of a successful partnership between Steven Cornwell and Jane Sinclair, and has since expanded into a nationally recognised design studio.

Jon Cattapan
Master of Arts, 1975

Jon's research interests are centred on urban themes and representations of the city. His paintings, drawings and prints have been exhibited very widely in museum and commercial shows throughout Australia and overseas over the last twenty years. His work is held in numerous public, state, regional and private collections including the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, The National Gallery of Victoria, the Queensland Art Gallery and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.


Richard Henderson
Diploma of Art (Graphic Design), 1973

Managing Director of R-Co., a specialist brand identity and image business, Richard Henderson has won a large number of industry design awards during his 25+ years in the business. In 2000 he was awarded the title of "Apple Master" by Apple Computers, and he is co-founder of the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA). In 2005 Richard was appointed project leader and creative director of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games visual identity.

Rick Amor
Certificate of Art, 1965

Rick has been the recipient of several Australia Council studio residencies which have allowed him to work in London, New York and Barcelona. In 1999 he was appointed as the official war artist to East Timor by the Australian War Memorial. Rick has held over 35 solo exhibitions of his work since first exhibiting at Joseph Brown Gallery in 1974.
